Endorsement Criteria

The Fertilise Wise logo can be used on fertiliser products, under license from SERCUL, after they have undergone and passed a rigorous, independent scientific testing process.

To gain Fertilise Wise endorsement products need to fulfill the following criteria:

(a) Product is labelled for use on appropriate soil types.

(b) Recommended fertiliser application rates are labelled specific to plant type (according to likely plant uptake and Nitrogen and Phosphorus guidelines given in criteria f and g).

(c) Avoids contributing to excessive soil acidification and is labelled for use accordingly.

(d) Contains adequate macro and micro elements for healthy and nutritional plant growth 1,3.
Minimum elements to be included are: Potassium (K), Calcium (Ca), Magnesium (Mg), Sulphur (S), Iron (Fe), Manganese (Mn), Copper (Cu), Zinc (Zn), Boron (B) and Molybdenum (Mo).

(e) Does not contain hazardous levels of heavy metals, persistent organic pollutants, radioactive isotopes, and synthetic chemicals that are known to damage human or ecological health, including use over decades of domestic application 2,3.

(f) Level of Total Dissolved Nitrogen leached does not exceed 25.0 g/m2/1000mm at labelled recommended application rates 3.

(g) Level of Total Dissolved Phosphorus leached does not exceed 1.0 g/m2/1000mm at labelled recommended application rates 3.

1. It is recommended that fertiliser element ratios address the Base Cation Saturation Ratio.
2. General guidelines for what SERCUL considers acceptable materials in fertiliser products are given in the Australian Organic Standards (March 2006, Section 9.2).
3. According to testing procedures outlined in the SERCUL Fertilise Wise Product Testing Statement.
